Description
  1. Base Repair/Cleanup:

    • Inspect the base for any major gouges, scratches, or damage.
    • Repair any significant damage using P-Tex or a similar material.
    • Clean the base to remove dirt, wax, and other contaminants.
  2. Base Grinding:

    • Use a stone grinder to flatten the base and remove any minor imperfections.
    • This step ensures a smooth, flat surface for better glide and edge contact.
  3. Edge Sharpening:

    • Use a file or edge sharpening tool to sharpen the edges of the skis or snowboard.
    • Typically, a 90-degree angle is used for the base edge and a 88-89 degree angle for the side edge.
    • This step improves edge grip and control on firm snow and ice.
  4. Edge Beveling:

    • Beveling the edges involves smoothing the sharp edge slightly to reduce catching and improve maneuverability.
    • Common bevel angles are 1-2 degrees for the base edge and 1-3 degrees for the side edge.
  5. Waxing:

    • Apply wax to the base of the skis or snowboard to enhance glide and protect the base.
    • Choose an appropriate wax for the snow conditions (cold, warm, all-temperature).
    • Use a waxing iron to melt the wax onto the base evenly, then scrape off excess wax with a scraper.
  6. Buffing:

    • Use a brush or cork to buff the wax into the base, further improving glide and durability.
  7. Final Inspection:

    • Inspect the skis or snowboard to ensure all steps have been completed properly.
    • Check for any remaining damage or imperfections.
  8. Edge Detuning (Optional for Snowboarders):

    • Snowboarders may choose to detune the edges slightly near the tips and tails to reduce catching in soft snow and during tricks.
  9. Final Test:

    • Take the skis or snowboard for a test run to ensure they perform as expected.
    • Make any final adjustments if necessary.
